6-Week Advanced
HD Filmmaking Camp Tuition: $7,250
Prerequisite: 3 or 4-Week Filmmaking or 3 or 4-Week Digital Filmmaking or 6-Week Combined 16MM Film and Digital Video Workshop, or equivalent previous experience.
High Definition was the future. Suddenly, it has become the present. Filmmakers are scrambling to master this new high resolution format to meet the demand created by HD theatrical distribution, broadcast, and even the Internet. When properly used, HD allows students to capture extraordinarily detailed images without the limitations inherent in 16mm and 35mm film production.
Hands-on Classes in camera, lighting, sound, directing and editing will give students the opportunity to explore the possibilities and characteristics of HD and help them prepare for their own projects.
In Production Workshop classes, students will shoot camera and lighting tests on HD, as well as a short scene to review the conventions of film coverage.
At the end of the second week of the course, students will go into production. Working in crews of four with an instructor, each student will have two production days. When not directing, students rotate in the roles of Director of Photography, Assistant Camera, Sound Operator, and Gaffer. The final two weeks of the program will be spent on digital editing and sound design. At the conclusion of the workshop, students will celebrate with a final screening for cast, crew, family, and invited guests.
This program demands a full commitment during class as well as on evenings and weekends. Students in this workshop will not participate in the usual group trips and activities planned for our other high school film camps. When not in class or shooting film, students will be casting, location scouting, creating storyboards, and rehearsing.
Tuition includes all classes and use of the high definition digital video camera, accessories and lighting package designed for this program. Tuition does not include any additional production expenses that may arise from a student's script. Such expenses may include costumes, props, location expenses, and food. The Film Academy encourages students to minimize any additional expenses, but cannot guarantee that, as a result of the student's choices, additional expenses will not be incurred.
