NYFA Grad Directs First Feature

Published on October 23, 2012

New York Film Academy Universal Studios Graduate, Daniel Lusko is currently in Burbank locking his first feature film, Hypercane. “It’s a natural phenomenon clashed with a nuclear-level disaster, end of the world level storms and mayhem, a hard-pressed family on the run, a fight for survival,” says Lusko. “Think Twister meets The Day After Tomorrow, but worse.” Hypercane stars Casper Van Dien of Starship Troopers, along with Michael Beach from Third Watch and True Romance.

Daniel began his studies in 2006 after reading about NYFA in a magazine. What stuck out to him the most was the fact that NYFA seemed much more real and grounded in actual hands-on filmmaking. He didn’t want to waste time. He was ready to be a filmmaker. “I’ve heard some people say you don’t need film school. That may be true of some, but NYFA was the closest thing to being on a film set. I remember having two days to pump out a movie and my directing instructor was always on us. The movie I just directed had an extremely tight production schedule and I can’t think of a better way to be prepared for something like that than the full immersion I experienced at NYFA. It was intense.”

Daniel will be presenting Hypercane at this year’s American Film Market.
