The Twelve-Week Evening Digital Video Editing Workshop follows the same structure and curriculum as the four-week full-time workshop, but was designed to meet the needs of students who have other daytime commitments. This evening workshop gives students all the necessary skills to edit with the Final Cut Pro software, and a knowledge of the editing craft from an artistic point of view. The workshop meets three evenings each week - Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday - from 7:00-9:30 pm at our New York campus and from 7:15 to 9:45 pm in Los Angeles. Some classes may held on Saturdays.

OVERVIEW

From day one, editing students learn the fundamentals of digital non-linear video editing on Apple’s Final Cut Pro film editing software. Over the course of twelve weeks students edit three different types of material: a short scene from a narrative film, a music video, and a trailer for a major motion picture. The final weeks of the workshop are devoted to building a DVD reel of the projects created during the course.

Each week is divided into class time and supervised lab time. Lab time is part of the schedule, and allows the students to utilize the skills they have acquired.

CLASSES

EDITING WITH FINAL CUT PRO
This is the core class of the Digital Video Editing Workshop. In daily meetings, students explore the ‘ins and outs’ of the Final Cut Pro Software, log and capture, image editing tools and techniques, media management, effects, audio mixing, and more.

MOVIE EDITING THEORY
In Theory class, students explore picture editing and sound editing conventions and techniques. The instructor uses short movie scenes and/or feature films to facilitate discussion. Students analyze such things as mood, rhythm, coverage conventions, continuity and structures.

AFTER EFFECTS
By the end of the course the students create a menu for their own DVD by learning the basic tools of Adobe After-Effects and Photoshop.

DVD STUDIO PRO
All students author a DVD, which includes the three edited assignments using the leading Apple authoring software - DVD Studio Pro 4.
