Studying at the Film Academy's campuses in New York City is like living and working at the crossroads of the world. New York City has a way of thrilling the senses that is as constant as the subways rumbling beneath its surface. For its size and diversity of landscape, people and culture, the city is unparalleled. One can hear dozens of different languages, choose from the cuisine of six continents and rub shoulders with diplomats, designers, machinists and musicians on any given day.

New York is a city of distinct pieces: the bustling shops of Chinatown and Spanish Harlem, the stately museums, the neighborhood brownstones. New York is about neon lights, taxi horns, street music, bookstores, landscaped parks and ten millions inhabitants working together - each as unique as the next.

Our students shoot in virtually every neighborhood in the city - from Soho lofts to East Village bars, Brooklyn delis to Times Square at rush hour. Student, commercial and studio film shoots abound in New York. The support system of production offices, supply houses, actors, theaters, editing labs and people is enormous.

By volume alone, New York is indisputably the greatest center of independent film production in the world. Like many filmmakers, novelists, playwrights and painters, our students find that New York itself helps to shape their artistic vision. The city is not only a setting for their stories, but also an active element in the lives of their characters.

All told, New York City is the perfect training ground for filmmaking and the related arts. The city challenges and stimulates students on every shoot, every step of the way.

Our Campuses

The New York Film Academy has two campuses in New York City: Union Square and Soho. Our Union Square building, the home of all of our film and editing programs, is located at the northeast corner of the Square at 100 E17th Street. NYFA's Soho location houses the NYC acting and musical theatre school. It is situated at 568 Broadway at Prince Street in the heart of New York's trendy shopping Mecca.

Transportation

An empowering aspect of New York City life is the public transportation. This is no need to own a car in New York. All five boroughs, (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island), are accessible with your metro card. New Jersey and Long Island, NY, are also just a train ride away. The trains run 24/7, and though there are sometimes service changes, the entire city is more or less accessible at all times.
