Study Abroad in three exciting cities and learn filmmaking or acting for film at The New York Film Academy. Our accredited study abroad programs include semester, one-year, and summer programs in London, Paris, and Florence. After successfully completing one of our study abroad programs, students will receive a college transcript that they may use to apply for transfer credit to their home institutions.

STUDY ABROAD WITH A DIFFERENCE

When students study abroad they receive an unparalleled opportunity to learn about other cultures and themselves.  What makes our study abroad programs so different is that students will deepen and solidify their learning through the creative process of filmmaking or acting for film.  The city in which our students choose to study becomes more than an exotic locale.  Our study abroad programs challenge students to interact with the people and cultures directly, and put their knowledge to work by making a series of short 16mm films.  As students write, direct, shoot, and edit their own films they will acquire a deeper understanding of the culture.  Its people will become the characters in their stories.  Its traditions and customs will shape their scripts.  The unique study abroad locations will provide the genuine environments for our students’ films.

This is not a traditional course of study. Our study abroad programs are focused, intensive, and extremely hands-on.  We expect participants to work with self-discipline, energy, and commitment.  At each of our study abroad locations, we offer outstanding facilities, high standards, professional equipment, and phenomenal instruction.

LONDON

Samuel Johnson wrote..."When a man is tired of London he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."  Many people find London the most exciting city in Europe today.  With an incredibly active theater and cinema culture, it is a wonderful place for students to study abroad and make films in the New York Film Academy's one or two semester program. The comprehensive curriculum includes classes in screenwriting, directing, acting, cinematography, and editing.  Each student will write, shoot, direct, and edit seven short films during the first semester and a thesis film if they complete both semesters.  Students in the study abroad semester will live in their own residential apartments and attend classes at our facility in the Bloomsbury section of central London. In addition to the semester programs in London, the New York Film Academy also holds short-term summer study abroad programs in London.

PARIS

The birthplace of motion pictures, Paris is an ideal city to live in, learn, and make films or act in them.  The filmmaking curriculum includes classes in screenwriting, directing, acting, cinematography, and editing.  Each study abroad student will write, shoot, direct, and edit three or four short films during our summer programs in Paris. Students may also participate in a conversational French table during lunch.   New York Film Academy students live in their own residential apartments, while they attend classes and make their films in Paris.  Our filmmaking and acting for film programs take at place the National Film School of France (La F.E.M.I.S.), which occupies the renovated grounds of Pathé Film Studios in the Montmartre neighborhood.

FLORENCE

Often called the cradle of the Renaissance, the great architecture of Florence has had a worldwide impact. The city has an impressive artistic legacy, having been the home of such distinguished artists as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael. For several hundred years it has served as a center of artistic excellence.The city is small but remarkably beautiful. Within the city's limits, sprawled on either side of the river Arno, a visitor can wander from the Cathedral to the famous Uffizi gallery. Mostly pedestrianized, walking is a pleasant way to visit most destinations, and the narrow Mediterranean-styled streets and piazzas are full of locations for film shoots.

New York Film Academy study abroad students live in student housing convenient to our classrooms. Classes are held in a renovated palazzo in the most thrilling part of Florence, a short walk from the Duomo.
