ONE-YEAR PROGRAMS IN FLORENCE ITALY Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, is a city that has inspired and nurtured artists for hundreds of years.
The New York Film Academy has been invited by the government of Tuscany to hold our programs in a renovated renaissance era building, across the street from Le Cappelle Medici, in the center of the city, moments away from the Duomo itself.Florence as well as the whole Tuscany Region have been set for many famous movies such as Room with a View, Hannibal, Under the Tuscan Sun, English Patient and many others. Students are encouraged to go scouting locations not only in Florence but inTuscany as well and find the best location where to based their movies. We feel it is an extraordinary setting to learn the art and craft of filmmaking and acting for film. STUDY ABROAD Studying abroad is an unparalleled opportunity for students to learn about other cultures and themselves. In Florence, our students can deepen their understanding of and connection to Italy through the creative process of filmmaking and acting for film. Florence becomes more than an exotic locale. Our programs challenge filmmaking students to interact with the people and culture directly and put their knowledge to work by making a series of short films. Acting for Film students perform in films shot on location in Florence bringing stories and characters to life that reflect the culture and history of this great city. As students write, direct, shoot, edit and act in their own films they will acquire a deep understanding of Italian culture. Its people will become the characters in their stories. Its traditions and customs will shape their scripts. And its unique locations will provide the genuine environments for our students’ films. Student's learning will be enriched by our Italian Studies curriculum. Florence is a repository of some of the greatest works of art in the world, and our study abroad program takes advantage of this. Subjects include Renaissance Art History, Conversational Italian, Italian Culture and History, and Italian Cinema. This is not a traditional course of study. Our program is focused, intensive, and extremely hands-on. We expect participants to work with self-discipline, energy, and commitment. We offer outstanding facilities, high standards, professional equipment, and phenomenal instruction. Ci vediamo a Firenze... Ciao!
