In response to the rise in popularity of the medium and the incredible expansion of venues for showcasing the art, the New York Film Academy has designed a hands-on, intensive 3D Animation Camp for students ages 14-17.

Be A Part Of The Maya 3D Revolution

3D Animation is the fastest growing creative technology in the world, appearing in gaming software, Oscar-winning feature films, and a variety of television and commercial programming. The New York Film Academy's One Year, Four Week and Three Week 3D Animation courses offer students the opportunity to take part in the 3D revolution.

Mastering the Medium

With over 23 million lines of code, the Maya 3D Animation software suite demands complete dedication on the part of its users. The expert instructors at the New York Film Academy walk animation students of all levels and abilities through the learning process, ensuring that they leave the 3D Animation camp program with a completed project for their reel and a thorough understanding of the 3D Animation production process.

CAMP PROGRAM SUMMARY
    Our Student Profile
  • A sincere interest in the art and craft of 3D Animation.
  • A spirit of collaboration and inquisitiveness.
  • A willingness to work with other artists and cultivate creative relationships.
    What you will achieve
  • Students will have designed, animated and completed her or his own 3D digitally-
       animated short film.
  • Students will participate in every part of the 3D Animation production pipeline.

Students in the 3-D Computer Animation High School camp program will write, animate, direct and edit their own computer animated short films. Computer 3-D animation is taking over the film world, and feature length CGI cartoons are breaking box office records. Computers are used for many of the special effects in live-action films, and digitized actors are virtually around the corner. The field of 3-D animated video, computer, and interactive games has grown amazingly in its short history and continues to expand as you read these words.

In response to the rise in popularity of the medium and the incredible expansion of venues for showcasing the art, the New York Film Academy has designed a hands-on intensive Four-Week 3-D Computer Animation Camp Program. The program is designed for individuals who want to learn how to use a high-end 3-D computer programs without having to enroll as a full-time year-round film student.

PREPARATION

The camp program is designed for students with little or no experience in animation. However, studio art or computer experience will be helpful. 3-D animation demands extraordinary focus and discipline.

SUPERVISION

All New York Film Academy High School Camp Programs are supervised. High school students will be overseen by energetic, responsible, co-ed administrative, teaching, and counseling staff.

FORMAT

This course will teach students the principles of animation (movement, timing, weight, character development, etc.) using Mayathe industry standard high-end 3D computer program. Students will progress through basic modeling, motion and rendering exercises en route to the completion of a short 3D computer animated film (with sound) of their own design by the end of the course.

3D TOPICS

a)
Modeling: Building objects and creatures from primitive shapes, polygonal modeling, and/or sculpting with curves and points.

b) Motion: Animating the objects and creatures you model using key frames, path and shape animation, simulation, deformation, and f-curves.

c) Character construction: Creating skeletons, attaching skins, weighting envelopes, and inverse kinematics.

d) Color and texture: Creating, importing, and applying multiple textures to objects/creatures; defining color, reflectivity, and transparency.

e) Rendering:Lights, camera, compiling movies, adding sound.

ANIMATION TOPICS >
  • Weight and secondary action
  • Squash and stretch
  • Rubber hose, full, and limited animation
  • Character design
  • Exaggeration vs. subtlety
  • Doping sound and lip sync
