Summer High School ESL
There is no better place for high school age students to enhance their English language skills than the New York Film Academy. The New York Film Academy's unique English courses for high school students allow students to study English in the morning and learn filmmaking or acing in the afternoon. Choose from our locations in New York City, at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, or Universal Studios in Hollywood. Our fantastic locations offer tremendous opportunity to explore urban American culture. Weekend excursions will take students to sites such as the Statue of Liberty and the shops of SoHo, or the beaches of Santa Monica and the glamour of Rodeo Drive, or Boston's fames Charles River and Faneuil Hall.
The courses have been created with the specific needs of our students in mind. Each course is four-weeks in length with 2-3 hours of English instruction in the morning that emphasizes listening, speaking, reading and writing, with additional time focused on grammar, accent reduction and relevant vocabulary. English classes are taught by qualified and friendly English teachers. After lunch, our experienced filmmaking and acting faculty put students through the paces either behind or in front of the camera.
Students from all parts of the world attend our courses. Upon successful completion of each course, students are awarded a Certificate.
LISTENING, SPEAKING, READING, WRITINGIt is in this class that students will put into practice English grammar and vocabulary in everyday situations ranging from telephone communications to job related situations, banking, transportation and medical issues. Both verbal and written skills will be practiced.
ACCENT REDUCTIONStudents will apply appropriate English sounds to speech. They will work with consonant and vowel sounds, intonation, rhythm, and stress patterns.
GRAMMARStudents will be taught English language grammar including appropriate use of verbs, nouns, adjectives, and prepositions. Advanced students will learn continuous and perfect tenses, as well as the proper use of gerunds, participles and infinitives.
VOCABULARYStudents will learn necessary and useful English vocabulary for several categories including Interpersonal Communication, Telephone Skills, Health and Nutrition, Transportation and Travel, Safety and Security, Consumer Education, Environment and World.
