Banky Wellington AKA Banky WSCREENWRITER

Banky Wellington, known professionally as Banky W, is an award-winning R&B artist, as well as a film actor and producer, from Lagos, Nigeria. He attended the 8-Week Filmmaking program at NYFA before returning for the 8-Week Screenwriting program. Wellington subsequently graduated from the latter in 2017.

Wellington’s newfound knowledge quickly paid dividends for him. He collaborated with NYFA short-term filmmaking program chair Jonathan Whittaker to produce and direct the music video for his 2014 single “Unborn Child.” The song also features hip-hop artist Lynxxx.

In the video, Banky W plays an NYPD police officer excited to learn about his girlfriend’s pregnancy, only for tragedy to strike. Not surprisingly, Banky W described his time on set with Whittaker as “a priceless learning experience.” Wellington also said that he was “blessed to have learned so much from him,” both inside and outside the classroom. Wellington further describes his experiences at NYFA in the Student Spotlight video below.

Notably, Wellington recorded the song “Jasi” for the 2015 film Road to Yesterday, starring Genevieve Nnaji, Oris Erhuero, and Chioma Omeruah.

However, Wellington’s involvement in film is not just limited to performing on soundtracks. Before attending NYFA, he was featured as a guest artist in the 2011 film The Return of Jenifa. Wellington subsequently appeared in the 2016 film The Wedding Party and its 2017 sequel, The Wedding Party 2: Destination Dubai. Furthermore, he co-executive produced the film Up North (2018). More recently, Wellington appeared in Sugar Rush (2019), where he notably served as the sole executive producer.
