Online Filmmaking Workshops

Learn Filmmaking
Online at NYFA

NYFA’s online workshops are designed to provide aspiring filmmakers with live, immersive classes that introduce them to filmmaking and directing. In these hands-on workshops, students create their own short films and original content while gaining foundational filmmaking skills. Working under the virtual guidance of our experienced faculty of filmmakers and directors, students are introduced to the process of creating a short film. Participants will also get an introduction to the essential roles found on a film production, including Producer, Cinematographer, Editor, and Screenwriter. No prerequisites or prior experience is required to attend.

Online Filmmaking Workshops

To accommodate all schedules, we currently offer a variety of online full-time and part-time film workshops. Full-time and part-time online workshops that are longer allow students to gain more hands-on experience and training, as these students will have the opportunity to execute more in-depth projects. Beginners will gain foundational filmmaking skills and knowledge and more advanced students will have the opportunity to refine their craft.

Equipment and Technical Requirements

As our film workshops are held online, students join from home. To attend any of our workshops, we recommend that all students have a reliable computer, external hard drive, strong internet connection and a quiet place to work. As students in the filmmaking classes work with large files and software that may require minimum technical specifications, we ask that all incoming students get a 500 GB – 1 TB solid slate drive. Students must provide their own digital camera or smartphone with camera, as well as DaVinci Resolve.

Please note: Equipment, curriculum, and projects are subject to change and may vary depending on location. Students should consult the most recently published campus catalog for the most up-to-date curriculum.
