Module One: Smartphone Cinematography
This module introduces the students to the principles of photography as applied to the moving image. The fundamental elements of cinematography can be applied to any camera. Those fundamentals include; exposure, lenses, focus, and movement. Together they will apply specifically to the smartphone camera.
In addition, this course will also explore the fundamentals of documentary camera work, strategies specific to shooting with a smartphone and of shooting an interview on a computer screen.
Using their phones, loaded with Filmic Pro, and a selfie stick, students are able to learn all that is necessary to begin to shoot documentaries even if they socially distanced and functionally alone in their home.
Module Two: The Interview
In this module, students will learn how to conduct interviews in person and via Zoom. We will explore aesthetic concerns including eye-lines and composition, ways to build rapport with your subjects and how to ask interesting and productive questions.
Module Three: Nonfiction Storytelling
With this module students will explore the possibilities of nonfiction storytelling. They will delve into the basic elements of dramatic narrative and learn to apply them to real life stories by constructing and telling a story from their own lives.
Programs will recommence in September 2021. New dates will be published soon.
