New York Film Academy is conducting a special series of events in Brazil. Join us for Auditions & Portfolio Reviews for potential talent based awards, Information Sessions and a Master Class in Creating Memorable Performances (Sao Paulo).

Our Auditions & Portfolio Reviews offer applicants for selected programs an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in order to be eligible for financial assistance towards their program in the form of a Talent Based Award. In order to confirm an audition or portfolio review time slot, you must apply to a long term program. Long term programs are considered 1 year or longer.

Our Information Sessions offer individuals an opportunity to learn about our programs, locations and our enrollment process.

Master Class

Creating Memorable Performances
This class, focused on the director - actor collaboration, will impart time tested techniques for getting the right performance in your project. Session topics will include but not be limited to: how an actor and director break down the written word by identifying the dramatic beats, effective tools for getting the actors to want what the project needs, successful rehearsal methods and demystifying the casting process. This class is for the actor and director alike as participants will gain tips of the craft; the do’s and don’ts for working with actors and directors.

About Jonathan Whittaker:
Jonathan Whittaker, Co-Chair of Filmmaking and the Virtual Reality Department at New York Film Academy, is both an educator and media production professional. As a New York based content creator, he has produced, directed and lensed features, short films, music videos, live concerts, commercials, TV shows, virtual reality experiences and 3D specials. Nissan, Sony Pictures, FILM.UA, DirecTV, MiSK, Gillette, Hyundai and Sports Illustrated are just a few of his clients and collaborators. When he is not on set or in an edit you can usually find him at the head of a lecture hall sharing his thoughts on the art of cinematography and the director’s craft. In addition to serving as a resident instructor at the NYFA New York campus he has also given guest lectures and spoken on panels spanning the globe, including the venerable Beijing Film Academy, Shanghai Theater Academy and King Saud University.

Acting Audition Requirements:

Please prepare two contemporary, contrasting 60-90 second monologues from a published contemporary English language play or screenplay.

Musical Theatre Audition Requirements:

Please prepare two contrasting musical theatre songs with musical accompaniment on a USB, personal musical player (e.g. iPhone), and one 60-90 second monologue from a published contemporary English language play or screenplay.

Portfolio Reviews for Degree Programs:

Creative samples can be accepted in various stages of development, or as completed work. Examples of work can range from drawings, conceptual illustrations, short films, poetry, short stories, storyboards, designs, photographs, three-dimensional models, or digitally generated images. Students may choose to submit a typed screenplay or short story (10 page maximum).

***Your admission and/or Talent Based Tuition Award will be determined upon the final review of your audition/portfolio review. Auditions are required for acceptance for long-term programs in Acting for Film and Musical Theatre. Talent Based Tuition Awards are for long-term Acting and Musical Theatre Programs. Portfolio Reviews are for long-term programs in Filmmaking, Documentary Filmmaking, Media Studies, Photography, Screenwriting, Cinematography, Screenwriting, Graphic Design, 3D Animation & VFX, and Game Design. Portfolio Reviews for Talent Based Tuition Awards are for Degree Programs only. Programs 1-year or longer are considered long-term programs. To audition or to have your portfolio reviewed for the New York Film Academy, individuals must submit a program application. Applications can be submitted online or you can bring the application form to the audition. There is a $65 (US dollars) application fee required. All tuition awards will be based on talent.

NYFA Auditions and Portfolio Reviews:

The New York Film Academy offers talent based award on tuition, to selected applicants, based on their natural skills in their chosen discipline.

To schedule an appointment to meet with us one-on-one to be considered for a talent based discount, simply complete the Form on the right. Please indicate the event and time you would like to attend and a NYFA Admissions Representative will contact you to finalize the details.

Award Tuition Opportunities:
  • A Portfolio Review for a Talent Based Award is eligible for applicants interested in attending a degree program at our U.S. campuses.

  • A Performance Audition for a Talent Based Award is eligible for applicants interested in attending NYFA's Musical Theatre or Acting for Film conservatory & degree programs

Please note: we will require you to complete an application form prior to our scheduled meeting. Once you’ve indicated which event you would like to attend, an admissions representative will contact to you and be able to guide you on the process to submit an application.

Eligible programs for a partial discounted tuition include:

Degree programs: Master of Fine Arts (MFA), Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Associate of Fine Arts (AFA), Master of Art (MA), and Bachelor of Art (BA).
Conservatory programs: One Year Conservatory Programs and Two Year Conservatory Programs.
