Auditions & Portfolio Reviews offer applicants an opportunity to demonstrate their talents for consideration and acceptance into the program and to assess their eligibility for grants or scholarships.
Our
Cinematography Master Class ‘Creating the Visual Metaphor’ explores how the choices a cinematographer makes regarding camera and lighting can enhance cinematic storytelling by setting the tone, evoking emotion and directing attention.

- One & Two Year Conservatory: Musical Theatre and Acting for Film
- Workshops: Musical Theatre (excludes online workshops)
- Portfolio Review:
- Graduate (MFA & MA): Filmmaking, Producing, Cinematography, 3D Animation and VFX, Game Design, Screenwriting, Graphic Design, Documentary Filmmaking, Photography

Auditions and Portfolios Reviews are not required for most of our short-term or online workshops. If you are ready to apply you may present your Audition or Portfolio for review and possibly be awarded Financial Aid.
ABOUT THE CINEMATOGRAPHY MASTER CLASS INSTRUCTOR, JONATHAN WHITTAKER
Jonathan Whittaker, Chair of the Short-term Intensive Programs at the New York Film Academy, is a New York-based content creator. With over 20 years of experience, he has produced, directed and lensed features, short films, music videos, live concerts, commercials, TV shows, virtual reality experiences and 3D specials. Two of his feature producing credits include
Train Baby and
America Here We Come.
Nissan, Sony Pictures, FILM.UA, DirecTV, Gillette, Hyundai, Sports Illustrated, Son Little and
Banky Wellington are just a few of his clients and collaborators. When he is not on set or in an edit you can usually find him at the head of a lecture hall sharing his thoughts on the art of cinematography and the director’s craft. In addition to serving as a resident instructor of Filmmaking and Virtual Reality at the NYFA New York campus he has also given guest lectures and spoken on panels spanning the globe.
Jonathan also serves on the board as a creative advisor and story producer for boutique production houses like
Cinematografo, Mudskipper Labs and
The Kr8tiv.
