New York Film Academy is conducting Auditions/Portfolio Reviews and a Master Class in Quito, Ecuador.

Our Auditions/Portfolio Reviews offer applicants an opportunity to demonstrate their skills to our admissions representatives, in order to be eligible for a talent based award on their NYFA tuition.

Blake Babbit
Master Class: Improvisation On Camera

Improvisation On Camera is a workshop emphasizing acting in theatre, improvisation, film, television, and commercials. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to learn honest on-camera performance while being guided through a variety of techniques and exercises aimed at relaxing and concentrating the actor. After the actor is relaxed and concentrated, they will have the opportunity to improvise on live camera. Participants with also be guided through a variety of on-camera acting techniques. Through the use of a digital camera and television, participants will have the opportunity to view their on camera performance live. The workshop will also go over the tools and terms of the acting and filmmaking industry necessary to becoming a working actor.

About Blake Babbitt:
Blake Babbitt is the Associate Director of Recruitment for the New York Film Academy. Additionally, Blake is the founder of 383 Productions, an independent film production company headquartered in New York City. Recent projects include directing and producing an award winning feature length documentary I Heart Jenny, and an acclaimed indie short Sunday 1287. Blake also directs plays. In his New York directorial debut Blake won a 'best play' award for his direction of Josh Billig’s Benefit of Friends at the American Globe Theatre. Blake's Off-Broadway acting credits include Baylis in Blackbird, Berowne from Love’s Labors Lost in the 45th Street Theatre’s annual Shakespeare Festival, and Joe in the premiere Dan Savage’s of Seeking Savage Love at the Laurie Beechman Theatre. Blake has also worked closely with Oscar and Tony Award Nominee Murray Schisgal (Tootsie) on a reading of his play Wallstreet Fandango. Other past theatre credits include roles in Flags, A Servant of Two Masters, Suburbia, Lover’s and Other Strangers, and The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare. TV and Film credits include Always Sunny in Philadelphia (FX), Mr. Wiskers (web series), Bottom Feeders (web series), and Passed Over (web series).

Acting Audition Requirements:

Please prepare two contemporary, contrasting 60-90 second monologues from a published contemporary English language play or screenplay.

Musical Theatre Audition Requirements:

Please prepare two contrasting musical theatre songs with musical accompaniment on a USB, personal musical player (e.g. iPhone), and one 60-90 second monologue from a published contemporary English language play or screenplay.

Portfolio Reviews for Degree Programs:

Creative samples can be accepted in various stages of development, or as completed work. Examples of work can range from drawings, conceptual illustrations, short films, poetry, short stories, storyboards, designs, photographs, three-dimensional models, or digitally generated images. Students may choose to submit a typed screenplay or short story (10 page maximum).



***Your admission and/or Talent Based Tuition Award will be determined upon the final review of your audition/portfolio review. Auditions are required for acceptance for long-term programs in Acting for Film and Musical Theatre. Talent Based Tuition Awards are for long-term Acting and Musical Theatre Programs. Portfolio Reviews are for long-term programs in Filmmaking, Documentary Filmmaking, Media Studies, Photography, Screenwriting, Cinematography, Screenwriting, Graphic Design, 3D Animation & VFX, and Game Design. Portfolio Reviews for Talent Based Tuition Awards are for Degree Programs only. Programs 1-year or longer are considered long-term programs. To audition or to have your portfolio reviewed for the New York Film Academy, individuals must submit a program application. Applications can be submitted online or you can bring the application form to the audition. There is a $65 (US dollars) application fee required. All tuition awards will be based on talent.

NYFA Auditions and Portfolio Reviews:

The New York Film Academy offers talent based award on tuition, to selected applicants, based on their natural skills in their chosen discipline.

To schedule an appointment to meet with us one-on-one to be considered for a talent based discount, simply complete the Form on the right. Please indicate the event and time you would like to attend and a NYFA Admissions Representative will contact you to finalize the details.

Award Tuition Opportunities:
  • A Portfolio Review for a Talent Based Award is eligible for applicants interested in attending a degree program at our U.S. campuses.

  • A Performance Audition for a Talent Based Award is eligible for applicants interested in attending NYFA's Musical Theatre or Acting for Film conservatory & degree programs

Please note: we will require you to complete an application form prior to our scheduled meeting. Once you’ve indicated which event you would like to attend, an admissions representative will contact to you and be able to guide you on the process to submit an application.

Eligible programs for a partial discounted tuition include:

Degree programs: Master of Fine Arts (MFA), Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Associate of Fine Arts (AFA), Master of Art (MA), and Bachelor of Art (BA).
Conservatory programs: One Year Conservatory Programs and Two Year Conservatory Programs.
