Most of you may recognize Henry Winkler as “The Fonz” from the hit TV series Happy Days, but it may not surprise you to know that he is also considered one of the nicest men in Hollywood. Winkler spoke with NYFA students in 2010 during an in-person Q&A that ended in a standing ovation for Winkler’s advice and kind words. During the event, NYFA screened the Winkler-directed film Memories of Me, starring Billy Crystal and Alan King.
The NYFA Guest Speaker originally booked his role for “The FONZ” from 1974 – 1984 and his portrayal catapulted the character into fame. “The Fonz” is now one of the most memorable characters in television history.
Winkler was Executive Producer for the show MacGyver between 1985 – 1992, and his role as Barry Zuckerkork in the sleeper hit Arrested Development won him critical acclaim. Winkler worked as director on Lifetime Network’s Royal Pains.
Some may not know that Henry Winkler is dyslexic, a condition that provided the beloved actor with many hurdles over which he overcame in order to achieve success in the entertainment industry. While at NYFA, the guest speaker revealed to students that he first became aware of his disorder at the age of 31.
