Learn How to Design a Video Game at NYFA
At NYFA’s Game Design School, kids who spend their time solving puzzles on their smartphones and exploring new 3D worlds on gaming consoles and PCs can learn the craft of video game design. Designed for students between the ages of 10 and 13, NYFA’s summer game design programs provide an exciting hands-on introduction to designing and building digital games. Throughout the camps, students learn game and sound design, art direction, and coding, creating their own unique content. NYFA currently offers in-person, on-campus summer camps and weekend camps. We also offer online programs on a seasonal basis.
Game Design Summer
Camps: Level I
In NYFA’s in-person game design summer camps, students develop their abilities at systems thinking, an essential foundation for better understanding fields such as science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Students can expect a fun-filled experience that will not only help them to grow as game designers, but as creative storytellers as well.
In these programs, students devise an original story concept for which they create and prototype core game mechanics while producing original art assets, ultimately programming their own games in a hands-on and collaborative “Game Jam” setting. No coding experience or knowledge is required to attend. While some of our kids camps offer level-two programs, our game design camps are currently available as level-one programs only.
