12 Day Filmmaking Workshop in Beijing, China

Overview of New York Film Academy Beijing

This Summer, NYFA returns to the Beijing Film Academy to host an intensive workshop  that merges traditional Hollywood craft with cutting-edge AI production techniques. This  is a full-time, immersive program. Students study on-site in Beijing, China and immerse  themselves in local culture. 

All courses are taught in English.

Study Abroad at the New York Film Academy

Beijing is an exciting and bustling city with a history of culture and power that extends back thousands of years. Visitors to Beijing will be inspired by the Forbidden City and Summer Palace, which were homes of the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Near Beijing the Great Wall of China, one of the world’s wonders, can be easily visited, as well as treasured attractions including the Temple of Heaven, Ming Tombs, Hutongs, Tiananmen Square, Beijing Opera, and Panda House. Modern Beijing is a city with vibrant night-life and world-class restaurants and a center of a burgeoning entertainment industry where hundreds of films and television shows are produced.

Program Requirements No prior film experience required, but a passion for storytelling and technology is a must

  • 18 and above
  • Equipment: A high-performance laptop (Mac M-series, or a Windows PC with an NVIDIA RTX graphics card) + an external hard drive or SSD with a minimum capacity of 1TB
  • Software: Installation guidance for DaVinci Resolve and all required software will be provided before the program begins
  • A valid tourist or short-stay visa for China: Citizens of certain countries may qualify for visa-free entry for up to 30 days, check your eligibility before applying.

Sample Schedule

  • Foundations (Days 1–5) Morning: Theories in directing, cinematography, and screenwriting; Afternoon: Film analysis, visual development, and editing workflow
  • Masterclass (Day 6) “How does a professional film set really work?”; An in-depth breakdown of scene direction and cinematography 
  • Pre-Production (Day 7) Sound recording prep + visual material development + crew meetings
  • Practical Training (Days 8–9) Full-process production and footage capture
  • Post-Production (Days 10–11) Editing, color grading, and visual effects compositing: bringing your story to life; Leveraging AI tools to elevate both your narrative and your imagery 
  • Graduation (Day 12) Screening of completed films + graduation ceremony +  director’s portfolio

STUDENT OUTCOMES

  • Direct and complete a short film 
  • Earn a NYFA Certificate of Completion 
  • An opportunity to compete in a China Media Group global AI competition  (outstanding projects only)

Tuition Includes: Instruction, use of equipment provided during the course, a  campus card, and a certificate of completion. Tuition Does Not Include: transportation, accommodation, meals, personal equipment  purchase or rental, software subscription fees, insurance, visa fees (if applicable), or any other personal expenses. Cancellation &  Refund Policy: Cancellations requested before May 31 at 23:59 (Beijing Time) are eligible for a full refund; Cancellations requested  June 1–15 at 23:59 (Beijing Time) are eligible for a 50% refund; Cancellations requested on or after June 16 are non-refundable. All  cancellation requests must be submitted in writing. Refunds will be returned via the original payment method within 30 business  days of receiving the request. The New York Film Academy reserves the right to cancel the program due to insufficient enrollment,  faculty changes, or force majeure. In the event of a cancellation initiated by the Academy, all enrolled participants will receive a full  refund of the net tuition fee. We recommend you purchase travel insurance to cover costs such as airfare, housing, and any other  non-NYFA-related fees, as NYFA cannot refund these external expenses.
