Destin Daniel Cretton is an Asian American filmmaker born in Maui, who directed The Glass Castle and the critically acclaimed Just Mercy, both starring Oscar®-winning actress Brie Larson, as well as Short Term 12, and I Am Not a Hipster.

Cretton was selected to direct Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021). The director was specifically selected due to his goal of avoiding every stereotype that has been hovering around Asian and Asian-American characters in Hollywood.
