NYFA Insurance Plan

All incoming and continuing students attending long-term programs are required to have health insurance for the duration of their course of study. Long-term students will be automatically billed and enrolled in the New York Film Academy Student Health Insurance Plan (NYFASHIP).

Costs for student health insurance coverage will be billed to students’ accounts at the start of each term enrollment period. Enrollment periods typically coincide with semester start dates. For New York students attending programs with semesters spanning two enrollment periods, students’ accounts will be billed twice per semester or once per each 16-week enrollment period.

Please refer to the Rate Chart* below for information on costs of NYFASHIP coverage.

Students who do not wish to purchase NYFASHIP may waive out of NYFASHIP enrollment by submitting proof of comparable insurance and participating in the online waiver request process.

Waive Process

The waiver deadline for incoming and continuing domestic and international students is October 1, 2019.

You may request to waiver out of NYFASHIP on or after August 10, 2019 and no later than October 1, 2019.

To participate in the waiver request process, please click on the button below corresponding to the campus you will be/are attending.

Upon completion of the waiver process, students will receive an email from Aetna confirming that their request and information have been received for review. Aetna will provide a follow-up email notifying students if their waiver requests have been approved or declined. If declined, insurance charges will remain on students’ accounts. If approved, charges for NYFASHIP coverage will be removed (or refunded) from students’ accounts. Students who successfully waive out of NYFASHIP coverage will not be billed for subsequent semesters until Fall 2020, the start of a new academic year and a new annual enrollment period. Students who graduate from their programs before Fall 2020 will not be billed for term coverage if they are graduated from NYFA before the start date of a Fall, Spring, or Summer enrollment period.

Students who elect to enroll in NYFASHIP and students whose waiver requests have been declined will be billed for term enrollment costs, per the rate chart noted above, for Fall, Spring, and Summer terms. For these students, once the charges for insurance coverage are applied, they cannot be reversed.
