MFA Producing alum and Los Angeles-based filmmaker Janek Ambros is a producer, director, and writer. The alum founded his own international production company, Assembly Line Entertainment, which touts films popular among the festival circuits worldwide. The production company produced films that have been screened and competed in Sundance Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), DTLA Film Festival, and Shanghai Film Festival.

Assembly Line Entertainment boasts an impressive filmography, including 10,000 Saints (Ethan Hawke, Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld), Human Capital (Maya Hawke, Marisa Tomei, Liev Schreiber, Alex Wolff), the documentary Imminent Threat (Directed by Janek Ambros), and Hey, Johnny. 

Ambros’ film, Mondo Hollywoodland premiered at the DTLA Film Festival where it won the ‘Creative Vision Award’ and the filmmaker won ‘Best Director’ at the Innuendo International Film Festival.

In May 2023, the LA-based filmmaker and received the ‘Auteur Filmmaker Award’ at the Roots of Europe International Film Festival. The festival screened Ambros’ films Son of Man, an adaptation of the famous Russian author Dostoevsky’s “The Grand Inquisitor,” May 15th in Paris, a short film about the rise of fascism in Western Europe, and his notable documentary short film, Ukrainians in Exile.

In January 2024, the alum’s film which he produced entitled In the Summers won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.

During a recent interview, Janek discussed his upcoming projects.

“I just finished a campaign for raising money for Liev Schreiber’s co-founded BlueCheck Ukraine that was really important to me. I shot a short doc on the refugee crisis, and the short doc was used to help money.

I’m really excited about working on my next film Nixon’s Nixon, which I’m making with my two colleagues and friends. I’ll be directing the movie, which is adaptation of the brilliant play by the great Russell Lees.”
