Improve Audition and Film Acting Skills

In NYFA’s 12-Weekend Acting Workshop II, students who have completed a prerequisite acting camp or workshop may return to enhance their acting skills. During this dynamic program, students aged 14-17 gain more experience in their performance and audition abilities, helping them progress as an actor. This is a weekend workshop held during the academic year.

Program Name: 12-Weekend Acting for Film Camp II for Teens

Prerequisite: 12-Weekend, 3, 4 or 6-Week Acting for Film Camp

The 12-Weekend Acting Workshop II, designed for returning NYFA campers, deepens young actors’ training and builds on the techniques learned in level one. Throughout the workshop, teens advance their skills in voice, movement, improvisation, audition technique and scene study, completing a variety of hands-on projects and exercises. Our faculty, composed of working directors and actors, may also teach topics such as Shakespeare, stage combat, film craft, dialects, and more.

As a challenge to their flexibility and versatility, 12-Week Acting for Film II students also rehearse, workshop, and film two contrasting monologues. At the end of the workshop, students receive a digital copy of their work, which is edited by our in-house editors. There is also a final screening for family members and invited guests.

12-Weekend 3D Animation Workshop for Teens

Learn 3D Animation at NYFA

Designed for teens with little or no experience in 3D animation, NYFA’s 12-Weekend 3D Animation Workshop gives students the opportunity to write, direct, animate, and edit their own short 3D animated content. In this hands-on workshop, students review the history of animation and the traditional animation pipeline, also learning the foundational techniques used in modeling, texturing, and animating characters and environments.

Hours: 2 – 6 p.m. in NYC (12 Consecutive Saturdays)

During the 12-Weekend 3D Animation Workshop, students focus on storytelling through the audio-visual medium of 3D animation, using industry-standard software. In each week of the program, teens will explore a new topic within 3D animation, building new skills and creating original work. Students will take courses in History of Animation, Intro to 3D Design, Storyboarding, Intro to Maya, Modeling & Texturing, Texturing, Part 2, Walk Cycles, Environment Modeling, Environment Modeling, Part 2, Character Animation, Finishing Touches & Rendering, and Final Rendering & Showcase.

12-Weekend Visual Storytelling Workshop for Kids

Hands-on Filmmaking for Kids

At NYFA’s Film School, students learn how to create their own video content. During our film and storytelling workshop, held on the weekend during the academic year, students aged 10-13 write, direct, and edit their own short films, learning under the guidance of professional filmmakers and directors. Students also take classes in directing, writing, editing, cinematography, and production to round out their education in visual storytelling.

Camp Name: 12-Weekend Filmmaking Camp for Kids I

The visual storytelling workshop is designed to give practical training, and students work with state-of-the-art digital cameras and equipment to learn the fundamentals of filmmaking in the most effective way possible — by making films. Students also rotate through different crew positions in their classmates’ projects, which teach them the essential creative and technical aspects of filmmaking.

At the end of the workshop, friends and family are invited to celebrate the final film projects in a special screening. Students also receive a USB drive from NYFA with a digital copy of their work. During the workshop, students need to provide their own lunch.

Hands-on Filmmaking for Kids

In addition to our level-one visual storytelling workshop, NYFA also offers a level two program. During these hands-on film classes for kids, students aged 10-13 who have already attended NYFA in a prerequisite camp may return to expand their skills in visual storytelling. Our level two program offers students the experience and tools needed to continue making their own video content and films. This is a weekend program held during the academic year.

Camp Name: 12-Weekend Filmmaking Camp for Kids II

Prerequisite: 1-Week, 2-Week, or 12-Weekend Filmmaking Camp for Kids

The visual storytelling workshop is structured to teach the creative and technical aspects of filmmaking, focusing on digital cinematography, screenwriting, editing practice and aesthetics, and directing. Throughout our level-two workshop, students learn about set and costume design, locations, shot choices and coverage, and crew roles while creating a short film. The finished product is a film of up to five minutes.

At the end of the program, students can invite their friends and family to celebrate the final film projects in a special screening. Students also receive a USB drive from NYFA with a digital copy of their work. During the workshop, students need to provide their own lunch.

Learn How to Act and Audition for Film

NYFA’s 12-Weekend Kids Acting Workshop I, designed for kids aged 10-13, is for aspiring actors who want to learn how to act for film. Over the course of 12 Saturdays during the school year, students gain experience performing in front of a camera. No experience is required to attend.

Hours: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. (12 Consecutive Saturdays)

In NYFA’s weekend kids acting workshop, students learn how to act for film under the guidance of our faculty of active actors and directors. Through exercises, group activities, and games, students learn how to break down physical and internal inhibitions to find the most effective personal sources for the creation of truthful characters. Students learn new acting skills through blocking, partner, moment to moment, and given circumstances work, building their audition and memorization skills. Students may also learn the self-marketing aspects of the business.

For their main projects, students perform an assigned monologue, as well as an assigned scene, which are recorded and edited by our faculty and in-house production and post-production staff. At the end of the workshop, students receive a USB drive with a digital copy of their work. Additionally, students may invite family and friends to an end-of-program screening. During the workshop, students need to provide their own lunch.

Develop Audition and Acting Skills

In the level-two 12-Weekend Kids Acting Workshop, students aged 10-13 continue to pursue their interest in film acting. Through more advanced exercises, students strengthen their acting skills and gain more experience in front of the camera. As this program acts as a continuation to some of our level-one programs, students must have taken a prerequisite to attend.

Prerequisite: 12-Weekend Acting for Film Camp for Kids

NYFA’s weekend workshop in acting provides an exciting opportunity for young performers to build upon their skills and learn new acting techniques.Throughout the workshop, students study closely with our faculty of active directors and actors to advance and refine their acting techniques, spending a significant amount of time in front of the camera. Similar to our level-one 12-Weekend Acting for Film Workshop, in this hands-on program, students learn to create truthful characters through assigned monologues and scene study. Students study major aspects of film acting including blocking, partner and moment to moment work, and given circumstances, providing opportunities to practice auditioning and memorization. Students may also learn some of the self-marketing tactics used in the industry.

As their primary project, students complete two contrasting monologues, as well as a scene with a professional actor, which are recorded and edited by our faculty. At the end of the workshop, students receive a USB drive with a copy of their work. Students may also invite family and friends to a special end-of-camp screening. Throughout the program, students need to bring their own lunch.

12-Weekend 3D Animation Camp for Kids

Learn 3D Computer Animation at NYFA

In our 12-Weekend 3D Animation Camps, students get the opportunity to write, direct, animate, and edit their own 3D-animated short films. From day one, students dive into 3D animation from day one and explore a high-tech, creative world of imagination, technology, and storytelling.

Hours: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. (12 Consecutive Saturdays)

Over the course of 12 weekends during the school year, campers study the history of animation and the traditional animation pipeline, and learn the foundational techniques used in modeling, texturing, and animating both characters and environments. Every week, kids explore a new topic within 3D animation to build new skills and original work. Courses focus on storytelling through the audiovisual medium of 3D animation, using industry-standard software and the latest generation Apple computers. Each three-hour class helps students design, storyboard, model, and animate a small scene of their own design.

During the animation camp, students will take classes in History of Animation, Intro to 3D Design, Storyboarding, Intro to Maya, Modeling & Texturing, Texturing Part 2, Walk Cycles, Environment Modeling, Environment Modeling Part 2, Character Animation, Finishing Touches and Rendering, Final Rendering and Showcase. Upon successful completion of camp kids will have created their very own original short animated film, celebrated in a special screening for friends and family.

2-Day Holiday Filmmaking Workshop for Teens

Learn How to Shoot a Film Scene at NYFA

In this short filmmaking class for teens, students explore their passion for filmmaking and learn how to shoot a film scene. Through collaborative work, aspiring filmmakers gain introductory knowledge in directing, writing, lighting, framing, shooting, and producing a film. This is a seasonal workshop held during the winter break of the academic school year.

Camp Name: 2-Day Holiday Filmmaking Camp for Teens

Hours: 7 Hours per day 10:00 AM – 5:00PM EST and PST with a one hour lunch break. 

During NYFA’s 2-Day Holiday Filmmaking Camp, students explore camera, lighting, sound, and post-production by working collaboratively on exercises in high definition digital video. Students use the skills taught in class to create short, filmed scenes that will be celebrated at a screening on the conclusion of the second day. Students also rotate through crew positions such as director, cinematographer, assistant cameraperson and actor.

This 2-Day filmmaking class is a fun and fast-paced experience, excellent for students who want a hands-on introduction to the basic principles of filmmaking.

Learn Fundamentals of Scene Work

In the Online 2 Day Acting For Film Holiday Programs students will also learn the fundamentals of scene work and how to prepare a short scene with a partner ending in a live zoom performance.
