New York Film Academy (NYFA) Acting Alum Eve Hewson Stars in Robin Hood

November 15, 2018 Sherwood Forest is about to get a visit from a New York Film Academy (NYFA) alum — Acting for Film camp graduate Eve Hewson, who is starring as Marian in Hollywood’s latest blockbuster production of Robin Hood.

Hewson hails from Dublin, Ireland, the second of four children born to activist Ali Hewson and Paul Hewson, better known as U2 frontman, Bono. In 2008, Hewson attended one of New York Film Academy’s summer camps for teens, studying Acting for Film.

After attending NYFA’s Acting for Film camp, Hewson went on to roles in the Sean Penn film This Must Be the Place, the Clive Owen film Blood Ties, and Enough Said, the critically acclaimed romantic comedy-drama that ultimately became one of James Gandolfini’s final roles.

In 2014, Hewson won a co-starring role on the Cinemax drama The Knick, starring Clive Owen and André Holland. Shortly after that, she played the daughter of Tom Hanks’ character in the Academy Award-nominated drama Bridge of Spies, directed by Steven Spielberg.

In 2015, Hewson spoke with New York Film Academy students in a Q&A following a screening of The Knick. Among other pearls of wisdom offered to the aspiring actors and film and visual artists in the crowd, Hewson told the audience, “I remember one teacher told me, when I was here at NYFA summer camp [to be] ‘as rebellious as you want with your acting.’”

Hewson continued, “You have to find what works for you and what makes you excited… do the work that makes you feel confident, because there are no rules.”

Her latest role will be as Marian in Columbia Pictures’ Robin Hood, the latest in a tradition of Hollywood blockbusters about the legendary English folk hero (the first film featuring the character came out 110 years ago — Robin Hood and His Merry Men (1908). Hewson will be starring alongside lead Taron Egerton (Kingsmen: The Secret Service), Jamie Foxx, Jamie Dornan, F. Murray Abraham, and Ben Mendelsohn as the villainous Sheriff of Nottingham.

Robin Hood was directed by Otto Bathurst and written by Ben Chandler and David James Kelly. The film will be released the day before Thanksgiving, on November 21. It’s no surprise Hewson’s career is steadily growing—the young actress is not afraid to put in the work needed to win coveted roles.

At her NYFA Q&A, she advised students, “Try to do as much preparation as you can, so [casting directors] really like you. And try not to worry.”

The New York Film Academy congratulates NYFA Acting alum Eve Hewson on landing her biggest role yet, and looks forward to seeing the many that are sure to follow!
