Tharun Bhascker DhaassyamFilmmaker

Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam is an award-winning actor, director, and writer from Madras, India. Dhaassyam studied digital filmmaking at NYFA in Mumbai, graduating from our 4-Week Filmmaking program in 2011. The same year, he made his directorial debut with Method, a short film he also wrote. Also in 2011, Dhaassyam wrote and directed his second short film, The Journey

In 2012, Dhaassyam wrote and directed two short films: Anukokunda and Junun. He then wrote and directed the short film Sainma (2014), before making his feature film debut with Pelli Choopulu in 2016. Dhaassayam won three awards for his work on Pelli Choopulu, the first of his career. He won the 2017 Silver Lotus Award for Best Screenplay and the Regional Award for Best Feature Film in the Telugu language. Dhaassayam also received the 2017 South Indian International Movie Award for Best Debutant Director.

Following his work on Pelli Choopulu, Dhaassyam forayed into acting, appearing in the films Mahanati and Sammohanam (both 2018). Additionally, Dhaassyam wrote and directed his second feature film, Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi (2018), in which he also appeared.

Dhaassyam served as story writer for the film Mitron and the web video series B. Tech in 2018. He subsequently appeared in Vishwak Sen’s action thriller Falaknuma Das the following year. Furthermore, Dhaassyam wrote dialogue for Meeku Maathrame Chepta (2019), a film in which he also appeared.

More recently, Dhaassyam wrote and directed one episode of the TV series Pitta Kathalu (2021), in addition to writing the dialogue for the films Oke Oka Jeevitham and Ori Devuda (both 2022). Meanwhile, Dhaassyam continued his acting career alongside his writing and directorial duties. He appeared in the films Sita Ramam (2022) and Das Ka Dhamki (2023).

In 2023, Dhaassyam wrote and directed the film Keedaa Cola, in which he also appears.

Furthermore, he will also appear in one episode of the TV series Anger Tales, as well as the upcoming horror series Dhootha, which debuts on December 1 of this year.
