In the Montage Video Project, students will create a montage in a 2-5 minute video using the theoretical principles of montage editing. Students will add a selection of music and learn how to do an audio mix, applying the fundamental concepts of 3-point editing and montage editing theories to edit the project.

The Short Documentary Film Project is 3-5 minutes in length. For this project, students will use footage provided in class that shows a story following one character or multiple characters, with a beginning, middle, and end.

By being on set, students are able to get a taste of directing, lighting, audio and camerawork, which strengthens their eye and deepens their knowledge as an editor. This footage is used to complete the Dialogue Project. For this project, students are given a pre-scripted, short, straightforward dialogue scene that they then storyboard and shoot together as a group. The narrative dialogue project will be edited from the scene shot in class. Students must maintain continuity and enhance the film’s narrative with their editing decisions.

Social Media Video

This project allows students to incorporate their Avid Media Composer, Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop skills they learned to make a short and impactful video ideal for social media.

Demo Reel

The Demo Reel is the summation of the projects and highlights the skills learned during the course, and acts as a visual calling card.
