Dutch filmmaker Jan de Bont shot many of the biggest action movies of the 80s and 90s, including Die Hard, The Hunt for Red October, Black Rain, Cujo, and Flatliners. His directorial debut, Speed, is still considered one of the action genre’s all-time greats.

de Bont spoke to students at NYFA’s Los Angeles campus in September 2011 after screening his follow-up feature, Twister, and discussed the groundbreaking special effects that made the film an instant action classic. He also took several questions from the audience, posed for photos with students, and shared anecdotes from his long career in film, including his story of getting mauled by a tiger on the set of his first American project, Roar.
