Janeane Garofalo made her start in standup comedy, winning an MTV competition while attending Providence College. Though she gained a following with her standup, her mainstream success began after a chance meeting with Ben Stiller at a deli. The two became quick friends and Janeane was asked to co-star in the Emmy-nominated but short-lived Ben Stiller Show. This led to her Emmy-nominated performances on the Larry Sanders Show, and a brief stint on Saturday Night Live. She made her film debut in 1994’s Reality Bites. Garofalo continues to have a successful career in standup, as well as with memorable leading and supporting roles in film. She visited enthusiastic students at the New York Film Academy in 2004.
