Neal Baer is a writer and producer for television and while his credits are fewer than many of his colleagues, they’re mostly giants of the TV landscape. After starting on China Beach, Baer wrote for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and ER, including its famous episode “Hell or High Water,” a gripping action-packed story that helped make George Clooney a star.

While writing for the hospital drama, Baer attended Harvard Medical School and became a pediatrician, all while still writing for TV. Talking to students at NYFA’s Los Angeles campus, Baer told aspiring filmmakers, “I think what you have to do if you want to work, as a director, is shadow. You attach to a director and you just become their shadow.”
