Nicholas Meyer has written multiple Star Trek films as well as on the new Star Trek: Discovery, and directed two of the most critically acclaimed films in the series, Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country. He also directed the epic television miniseries The Day After, which supposedly helped convince President Reagan to reestablish peace talks with the Soviet Union.

Speaking with students at NYFA’s Los Angeles campus, Meyer talked in depth about his work on Star Trek, and offered this advice: “The words that make you laugh or cry on the page is when you decode them. Movies alone… have the hideous capacity to do everything for you.”
