Summer Camps in Paris
Summer Camps in Paris
Filmmaking and Acting for Film Camps
A century after the first experiments with motion pictures took place in Paris and almost 50 years since the French New Wave changed the way we look at movies, NYFA’s students continue the tradition of capturing this city and the stories it generates on film. Since 1998, NYFA has held filmmaking and acting for film summer camps in Paris, hosted at the National Film School of France, La Fémis.
As one of world’s most elite film institutes, La Fémis is located in the historic neighborhood of Montmartre. Our programs offer students aged 14-17 an introduction to the world of cinematic storytelling, as well as great neighborhoods, museums, and city sites.
Teen Programs
NYFA’s Paris program offers full-time summer camps for teens in filmmaking and acting for film. These programs are offered on a seasonal basis. Please contact an admissions representative for more details.
To learn about summer teen camps and workshops available at the Paris location, please click here.
Facilities
La Fémis is located in the historic Pathé Studios in the 18th arrondissement (district). The school has spacious classrooms, meeting spaces, shooting space, state-of-the-art screening rooms, as well as a student lounge. Paris also has a number of sites and locations to film.
Faculty
NYFA’s experienced faculty include filmmakers and actors who are actively working in their chosen disciplines. As the summer camps aim to provide practical training, faculty provide mentorship and guidance to help students pursue their creative goals.
The residence is situated in the 18th arrondissement (district) in the heart of Montmartre, which is an easy walk to our classrooms at La Fémis (The French national Film School and former PathéStudios). Rooms are fully furnished shared studios (double occupancy) with a private bathroom, television, and wifi. The residence management has been operating housing facilities for international students for many years, and they are very helpful and student-friendly. For additional information, please contact a NYFA Youth Admissions representative at [email protected].
Students who attend NYFA’s summer camps are supervised closely. Students are allowed to patronize local eateries and have limited freedom to explore the area, following the buddy system. “Buddies”, or two or more students, sign out together with one of the counselors, travel outside together, and sign back in as a group. Students with cell phones are asked to have their phones charged and on at all times.
Although the camp’s daily schedule is demanding, students have time to explore the sights, great boulevards, and charming neighborhoods of Paris in organized evening and weekend activities. For the film lover, Paris has more cinemas than any city in the world, and screenings of an incredibly wide range of work proliferate throughout the city. Montmartre, which has always been the neighborhood of choice for young artists and actors, is within walking distance of Sacre Coeur, the glorious cathedral with a hilltop view of all Paris.
A complimentary continental breakfast served daily is included in the price of housing. For lunch and dinner, we recommend students budget $30-40/day. You can choose from an infinite number of local cafes, bistros and restaurants. Excellent and affordable groceries abound in the neighborhood, so you may keep and cook food in your apartment suite.

Cambridge, one of the oldest cities in the United States, also offers innumerable locations and sites to film.
Faculty
The experienced faculty at NYFA include filmmakers, digital and visual artists, and actors with a tremendous amount of knowledge in their chosen fields. NYFA’s summer camps aim to prepare students to pursue their creative goals, and faculty will provide guidance and mentorship to give students the opportunity to refine and improve their work.
NYFA students living on campus will reside in one of Harvard University’s residence halls. The dormitories are a short walk from campus and students will check-in and check-out of their dorms. During their time at NYFA, students spend the majority of their time in class, working on their film shoots on campus with their instructors or teaching assistants, and/or working in professional labs. When time allows, students may explore campus and patronize establishments in Harvard Square, but must stay within a certain radius of Harvard Campus proper. That radius is clearly outlined at the onset of the program. Students must inform their counselor of their destinations in Harvard Square and they must adhere to our Buddy System.
Situated north of Boston, Cambridge is a hi-tech and cultured city that has served as an attraction for artists and scholars for centuries. Although the camp’s daily schedule is demanding, non-commuting students will take part in organized activities in and around the Harvard campus. As Cambridge is a vibrant college town with dozens of restaurants, cafés, bookstores, ice cream shops, and pizza parlors encircling the university, students will have plenty of spots to explore. A number of world-class museums are also in the area, as well as theatres. Weekend activities are mandatory for housed students and include daylong trips. Counselors attend and supervise these outings. Additional activities take place nearly every weeknight and on Sundays as well, and these are optional. In addition to exploring Cambridge, students may also make supervised trips into Boston, a twenty-minute train ride away.
For NYFA’s summer programs at Harvard, the cost of meals are built into the program. Students will have a meal plan that they will use at the cafeteria located in Memorial Hall. Any additional on or off-campus snacks or meals will need to be covered by the students.

Summer Camps in Florence
Summer Camps in Florence, Italy
Filmmaking and Acting Camps
At the summer camps in Florence, Italy, students can explore their interests in filmmaking and acting in a city full of inspirational history and culture. Located in the neighborhood of Santa Croce, whose curved streets are the remnants of the amphitheater built 2,000 years ago, our Florence campus is steps away from the picturesque Piazza Santa Croce. The summer film and acting camps for teens are held amid the greatest artistic and architectural works of the renaissance, and students will have the opportunity to use famous locations such as Michelangelo’s Medici Chapel, the Duomo, and the church of Santa Maria Novella as their backdrops.
Teen Programs
NYFA Florence currently offers programs for teens aged 14-17 in filmmaking and acting for film. While a number of our programs based the US offer level-two classes, our Florence programs are offered at level-one only. Designed to immerse students in the art of cinematic storytelling, during these programs, students will learn to write, direct, shoot, edit, and act in their own short films.
To view all teen and kids summer camps and year-round workshops available at the Florence location, please click here.
Facilities
NYFA Florence is located in a historic building that was rebuilt over the centuries on the ruins of the Roman amphitheater. During their time on campus, students will work in a modern, updated space with purpose-built classrooms and designated areas for filming and photography, as well as an expansive equipment office with a vast selection of professional-grade film production equipment, props, and software.
Faculty
NYFA’s international faculty includes experienced filmmakers, photographers, and actors that possess a wealth of knowledge in their respective fields. Our faculty aims to prepare students for the most competitive creative industries by providing guidance and mentorship. Please note that our NYFA Florence classes are taught in English.
Teens in our Florence program reside in the quiet neighborhood of San Marco, located in the heart of Florence. We typically reserve hotel rooms for our students. As qualified counselors will also reside in the hotel, students are carefully supervised. Transportation to and from school is arranged in advance and students travel in pairs or groups morning and afternoon. A strict curfew is enforced and each room is checked every night by counselors who are always available and minutes away at all times. Please note that due to safety concerns surrounding COVID-19, NYFA may be unable to offer housing for in-person camps. For additional information, please contact a NYFA Youth Admissions representative at [email protected].
Florence is a small, but remarkably beautiful city, and mostly pedestrianized. Walking is the most pleasant way to visit most destinations. To provide students with the opportunity to walk around, parents have the option of signing a permission waiver, which allows students to explore the city of Florence without adult supervision. However, even if students have such permission, they must still report to a counselor with their destination and scheduled time of return. This is very important, otherwise the parental permission is not considered valid.
In Florence, NYFA students may visit art museums, theatres, piazzas, and more. Florence has abundant bookshops, Internet cafés, coffee shops, restaurants, cinemas, and stores. On weekends, students partake in organized activities. With staff and counselors, students may visit an off-site location. Out-of-town excursions are completely supervised and do not last more than one day, such as a day trip to see the highlights of Rome or Tuscany. These outings are conducted and chaperoned by Film Academy staff. Some extracurricular activities may incur an additional fee.
The streets of Florence are dotted with restaurants and cafés so everyone should find something to their taste. Dining is an art in Tuscany, to students with gourmet tastes, we say “buon appetito.” Students can reasonably expect to spend additional funds per day on food.
