Israa Al-KamaliDIRECTOR | PRODUCER | WRITER

Israa Al-Kamali is the writer and director of the short Open Sesame (2022), which follows the story of a woman dressed as a man, and answers misogynistic riddles by predatory-animal-headed individuals to ensure her safe return home.

Al-Kamali is also the founder of the Independent Iraqi Film Festival (IIFF). The festival’s first circuit was held virtually over the Summer months in 2020, showcasing 13 Iraqi short and feature-length films from emerging and established Iraqi filmmakers to a global audience. Al-Kamali is an alum from the MFA Filmmaking program.
