Li Cheng is a writer, director, and producer, who originally hails from China, but moved to the U.S. in 1999. Cheng studied filmmaking at the New York Film Academy in 2008 for a 4-Week Workshop.
His first feature length film was Joshua Tree and his second feature, José, premiered at the Venice Film Festival, earning him the prestigious Queer Lion Award. The film then opened in 50 countries and 100 festival cities worldwide, including a national theater release in the U.S. Cheng continues to travel the world and explore key themes in his filmmaking, including: societal issues, class struggles, times of crisis, and hope.
