New York Film Academy Diversity

In an increasingly interconnected, global world, the New York Film Academy is committed to nurturing a diverse and international community for students, faculty, and staff. Our community is built by individuals from over 120 countries and all backgrounds who seek to create a better life and a stronger world through the visual and performing arts.

At New York Film Academy, we’re proud to welcome people from all over the world who are driven to seek out the best educational opportunities possible as they pursue their dreams. We firmly believe in the unifying power of storytelling, and in the importance of fostering voices from every corner of the globe and every walk of life.

Stories can only be told when people work together. Collaboration, community and inclusion are at the heart of the visual and performing arts. This is why NYFA believes that our philosophy of "learning by doing" is especially important when it comes to supporting our diverse and international community. We empower our students learn to work together in hands-on projects that require intense cooperation with people from different cultures and backgrounds, under the pressures of real-world scenarios. Working together in this way offers our students the opportunity to practice collaboration, respect, problem solving, and professionalism — skills that they will need as they pursue their craft.

Message from the President:

Dear Colleagues, Students, and Friends of the New York Film Academy,

The extraordinary variety of nationalities represented throughout the New York Film Academy is one our greatest strengths. We are proud to welcome students from over one hundred countries and to stand with many of our nation’s colleges and universities that are resisting threats to international diversity.

This very diversity is a pillar of the industries our students hope to enter upon graduation. In support of this creative community, NYFA joins one of the foremost bodies representing professional artists in our country, the Writers' Guild of America, in celebrating their commitment to international artists immigrating to, or visiting, the United States:

"From its early days, the entertainment industry has been built by the imagination of immigrants. Our guilds are unions of storytellers who have always welcomed those from other nations, and of varying beliefs, who wish to share their creativity with America. We are grateful to them, we stand with them, and we will fight for them."

All students, faculty, staff, and guests of New York Film Academy have our support. Our International Student Services Office, Dean of Students Office, Veterans Services Office, Human Resources Department, School Counselors, and Admissions Office are all keeping apprised of developments in recently instituted travel restrictions, and are available to help. Please do not hesitate to contact any of these or other NYFA resources with any questions or concerns.
