At the New York Film Academy’s film school, faculty members and curriculum are focused on providing students with the real world know-how to help them achieve their goals. These achievements are the result of their hard work, perseverance, talent and circumstances. Below are some of the positions and networks in which our alumni have worked:
Learn Documentary Filmmaking Online at NYFA
In addition to in-person workshops, NYFA’s Documentary Filmmaking School also offers a series of online workshops. During these intensive workshops, students build creative and technical skills in visual and nonfiction storytelling, learning how to pitch and present their ideas, interview subjects, edit their footage into compelling narratives, and apply introductory sound and cinematography techniques to their films.
Students may use their smartphone or provide their own DSLR camera to shoot their projects. Students study under the remote mentorship of our experienced faculty, and receive personalized feedback and creative critique on their work.
Unlike other online courses, in NYFA’s Hands-Online workshops, you will meet your professors and your classmates in the virtual classroom, share your ideas and collaborate on your projects. This is not just a series of videos to watch and prompts to answer like many other online courses. The NYFA hands-online workshop is a real studio course in the online environment. No prerequisites or prior experience is required to attend.
Online Documentary Filmmaking Workshops
To accommodate all schedules, we offer both full-time and part-time online workshops, including an evening documentary filmmaking workshop. Online documentary workshops cover similar topics and projects, with the primary difference being the class times in which the online workshops are offered. Beginners will gain foundational documentary filmmaking skills and knowledge and more advanced students will have the opportunity to refine their craft.
This online, part-time evening workshop allows students to balance documentary filmmaking with other responsibilities. Classes run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with additional Wednesdays during weeks 14 and 15. Projects may include an Observational Film, Interview Film, and Final Film.
