3-Week Acting for Teens Camp II

Summer Camp for Acting at NYFA

Students who have already completed a level-one prerequisite acting camp may return to continue their studies in film acting. During NYFA’s three-week, level two acting camp for teenagers, students aged 14-17 are challenged to build upon the skills learned in the level one program, helping them enhance their on-camera abilities through rigorous exercises and hands-on projects.

Program DescriptionCamp Name: 3-Week Acting for Film Camp II for Teens

Prerequisite: 12-Weekend, 3, 4 or 6-Week Acting for Film Camp

The 3-Week Acting for Film II is an advanced course designed for students who have already completed our 3-Week or 6-Week Acting for Film Program and are ready to take their craft to the next level. This intensive program builds on the fundamentals learned in the previous course, challenging students with more complex material, deeper character exploration, and advanced on-camera techniques. Students who have not previously trained with us may be considered for admission through an evaluation of their acting skills. In these cases, we will provide a form to fill out and request a sample of their work before making a decision.

Core Subjects

  • Monologue – Students will work on more demanding monologues that require greater emotional depth, nuanced character work, and stronger physical and vocal control. Their final performance will be professionally filmed and edited to showcase their growth as an actor.

  • Acting for Film – This class challenges students to refine their screen presence by working with more intricate shot compositions, complex blocking, and heightened emotional continuity. They will also explore techniques for adjusting performances based on directorial notes and on-set changes.

  • Scene Study – In Level II, scene work becomes more challenging, requiring students to navigate layered character dynamics, subtext, and heightened emotional stakes. Scenes will be chosen to push their ability to listen, react truthfully, and fully embody their roles.

  • Audition Technique – Students will work with more advanced material and complex audition scenarios, developing the ability to make bold yet truthful choices in auditions while learning how to adapt quickly to casting feedback.

  • Voice & Movement – With an increased focus on precision and control, this course helps students expand their physical and vocal range, ensuring they can embody demanding characters with authenticity and ease.

  • Improvisation – Students will take on more challenging improvisational exercises that require them to think on their feet, create compelling character arcs, and develop strong ensemble skills.

  • The Business of Acting – This course continues to prepare students for professional work by diving deeper into the realities of the industry, from networking strategies to self-taping techniques that meet the latest industry standards.

Final Projects

By the end of the program, students will add two new professionally filmed and edited pieces to their acting portfolio:

  • Monologue – A powerful, high-quality monologue showcasing their growth and ability to tackle more sophisticated material.
  • Scene – A professionally shot and edited scene, selected to challenge their abilities and expand their range as a screen actor.

Collaboration with Filmmaking Students

In addition to the monologue and scene, students will also have the unique opportunity to be cast in one of the 3-Week Filmmaking II Program’s student films (if the program runs in that campus that year). These student films are dialogue films, this is the only project the FILM II students shoot in this program, intended for them to explore the layer of “dialogue” in their evolution of visual storytelling. This experience allows students to apply their acting skills in a dialogue film, focusing not only in the nuances of physical performance, expression, and emotional communication but exploring adjustments and character development next to peers in the filmmaking program, while also collaborating with them as additional crew in their films.

In the Los Angeles campus, this project can be shot in the backlot of Universal Studios, in all other campuses this project can be shot on outdoor locations around that city.

The 3-Week Acting for Film II is designed for students ready to push their boundaries, take on greater artistic challenges, and build a stronger portfolio of work. Through deeper scene study, advanced techniques, and a focus on professional-level performances, students will leave this program with a heightened understanding of film acting and a stronger foundation for their future careers.
