Hands-on intensive 1-Week Musical Theatre Workshop

The Professional Conservatory of Musical Theatre at NYFA provides a unique environment where students of Musical Theatre can hone their skills guided by a dedicated Broadway-level faculty not found in any other program nationwide. The 1-week workshop provides a rigorous and enjoyable training experience that models many of the best features of the longer programs. The basis of this and all other NYFA workshops is learning by doing, using a hands-on, practical, experiential approach. It is constructed to deliver a great deal of content in a short time.

The intensive 1-Week Musical Theatre Workshop was designed to serve the needs of different types of students. The workshop is a great way to upgrade current skill sets, prep for an audition, or for students contemplating a longer-term education in musical theatre, it is an excellent introduction. The workshop gives students an understanding of the rigorous requirements of a performer. Many of our 1-week students realize that one week will not fulfill their desire to learn all they can about the craft and therefore return to complete a longer course of study with NYFA.

All students enrolling in the intensive 1-Week Musical Theatre Workshop should be aware that this is an introductory course. The limitations of a 1-week course should be apparent, given that many people spend years studying and perfecting the craft of singing, dancing, and acting.

To audition for the Professional Conservatory of Musical Theatre at NYFA, prospective students must submit an application. Applications can be completed online. There is a required $50 application fee for the 1 & 4-Week Musical Theatre Workshops.

Please prepare One Musical Theatre Song:

  • The musical theatre song should be sung in its entirety.
  • Students must sing to live or recorded accompaniment. No a cappella singing.
  • Songs should be filmed in a 3/4 shot, which means approximately from the knees to the top of the head, and submitted as a shareable link.
  • The musical theatre department may request an additional song from the applicant after reviewing the initial audition material.
Please do not choreograph your audition, use props, or perform into a microphone. We ask that you choose material that is age- and type-appropriate. It is important to remember that you must act your song, so find pieces that excite you and that you have a personal connection to. The more connected you are to the character's circumstances, the more we are able to see your talent and personality.
