He received an Oscar nod for his performance in 1988’s Stand and Deliver, and is well known for his memorable roles in Blade Runner, American Me, My Family/Mi Familia, Selena, and Time of the Butterflies. He has won an Emmy and 2 Golden Globes for his celebrated television roles, including Miami Vice, The West Wing, cult favorite Battlestar Galactica, and Dexter. He is also a devoted social activist, co-founding the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival, Latino Literacy Now, and Latino Public Broadcasting.
