The New York Film Academy offers hands-on 16mm filmmaking, digital filmmaking, acting, 3D animation, screenwriting, music video, broadcast journalism and musical theatre camps tailored specifically to the needs of high school students. We require that participants bring the discipline, commitment, patience, and passion to explore, to work collaboratively with a team - to lead, and to problem-solve. These workshops challenge the students’ creative, physical, and organizational abilities. Filmmaking CampsThe New York Film Academy offers a variety of intensive summer programs for high school students, spanning from one-week to six-weeks in length. These camps are taught at a variety of locations in the United States and abroad – please refer to the curriculum and locations sections. In the Four-Week film camp, each student directs three 16mm films of increasing complexity and edits them digitally. The third project is a film of up to four minutes with a music track. In most locations, a three week camp is also available, in which students write, shoot and direct and edit two 16mm films. In the FOUR-Week Digital Film Camp, each student makes three short digital video projects of his or her own design. This program will explore narrative storytelling, as well as documentary filmmaking. The final project is a digital film of up to six minutes. In most locations, three week camps are also available, in which each student makes two digital films. In the Six-Week film and DV camp, each student directs four film projects of increasing complexity and edits them digitally. The fourth project is a film of up to six minutes, which may be shot on 16mm or 24p DV with multiple tracks of sound. Acting for Film CampsThis Four-Week acting camp combines traditional training with courses geared towards building acting techniques for the camera. The acting workshops follow our philosophy of total immersion, and as such requires a full-time commitment. In most locations, a three week camp is also available. BROADCAST JOURNALISM CAMPThrough study and hands-on practice, students are trained in the fundamental principles, techniques, and craft of broadcast journalism. This is accomplished through a combination of lecture, demonstration, in-class hands-on production, and the students’ own work. Each student produces two projects, shot with single-camera set-ups and edited on Final-Cut Pro. This intensive workshop provides a strong introduction to necessary digital and journalism skills. One-week campsThe New York Film Academy offers one-week camps in filmmaking, acting, and music video. These are designed to give students an intensive hands-on introduction to these subjects. High-definition CAMPIn this Six-Week high-definition digital filmmaking camp, each student makes a short film of three to six minutes, shooting on the high definition digital video camera. Open only to graduates of New York Film Academy’s Three, Four or Six-Week Film Camps, this workshop is available at our New York City and Los Angeles, CA locations only. 3-D Animation CAMPSIn this our-Week 3-D animation camp, each student makes a short 3-D computer animated film using Maya. This camp is available only at the New York Film Academy location at Harvard University. Three week camps are also available. |
